Getting Started

Once you’ve downloaded the plugin, follow these simple step-by-step instructions to install it on your WordPress blog and start cloaking links :

1. Upload the Plugin

First, you need to upload the plugin. To do that, log into your site, go to Plugins -> Add New -> Upload and upload the plugin’s .zip file through the form you’ll find there. Note that you may also need to enter your FTP information (in case your /plugins/ directory isn’t writable by Wordpres), so keep that handy.

If the upload form doesn’t work for you, you can do it manually. First, unpack the ZIP file using your favourite file archiver. Then use a FTP client (e.g. CuteFTP) to upload the eclipse-cloaker folder to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory on your server.

2. Activate It

If you used the aforementioned Upload form you can activate the plugin by simply clicking the “Activate” link that WP will display after the upload is complete. If you uploaded the plugin manually, go to the Plugins -> Installed -> Inactive tab, find “Eclipse Link Cloaker” and click the corresponding “Activate” link.

3. Enter the License Key

Finally, you need to enter the license key. Go to Settings -> Link Cloaker, input your key in the “License key” field and click “Check Key”. The plugin will verify your key and automatically begin cloaking any external links found on your site.

4. Cloak your links

By default, the plugin will cloak all external links it finds. If you want to prevent individual links from getting cloaked, add a <!–nocloak–> tag to their anchor text like this : <a href="http://example.com/?affid=123"><!--nocloak-->Example Link</a> (the tag needs to be entered in the HTML editor mode to make it work). You can also exclude entire sites from getting cloaked by adding them to the “Exclusion list” in Settings -> Link Cloaker.

Alternatively, you can switch to the “selective cloaking mode”. In this mode the plugin will cloak only the links you’ve tagged with <!–cloak–> and links to sites listed in the “inclusion list” (also found under Settings -> Link Cloaker).

For more information on how to manage your cloaked links see the link management tutorial.  For an explanation of all the various settings available in the aforementioned Settings -> Link Cloaker tab, check out the configuration tutorial.
